Recognizing our Omission

What can I do and what didn't I do? What did I do wrong? Because I am the first to recognize that, as all limited human beings, not everything that I have done is good. That when I ask the Lord in the Mass to pardon me for sins of omission, I am indicating the most mysterious chapter of evil in each heart: what we could have done and didn't. How much of a hole do we leave in life! How much good do we refrain from doing!

Oscar Romero, Dec 31, 1979 Translated by Irene B. Hodgson
